World Water Week serves as an important moment to recognize water as an essential resource not just for our business operations, but for the well-being of the communities where we live and work. At Constellation Brands, our ambition is to improve water availability and resilience for the communities where we operate, including building meaningful partnerships with local leaders and organizations to support and enhance watersheds. We are proud to collaborate with The Nature Conservancy (TNC), the State of Coahuila Water and Sanitation Commission (CEAS), and other state and municipal governments on projects that help restore water back to these watersheds and also aim to improve water availability and quality, benefiting both people and the planet.

Innovative Water Conservation in California’s San Joaquin Valley

A key focus of our collaboration with TNC is in California’s San Joaquin Valley, a region renowned for its agricultural productivity. To help support water conservation, farmers in the region are participating in unique initiatives to plant cover crops instead of traditional crops during the winter. This practice has led to a meaningful reduction in groundwater demand and conserved hundreds of millions of gallons of water annually.

These benefits go beyond water conservation, as keeping fields fallow during critical times enhances habitats for migratory birds, many of which rely on the San Joaquin Valley as a crucial stopover.

Water conservation is essential for the long-term sustainability of the San Joaquin Valley. By adopting innovative practices like cover cropping, farmers are not only saving water, but also improving soil health and creating vital habitats for wildlife.

Improving Water Infrastructure for Residents in Nava

Through our partnership with CEAS, we have focused efforts to help modernize and rehabilitate pipelines, wells, intakes, and other water supply infrastructure to improve water access for the residents in Nava, Mexico – home to our Nava Brewery. The Allende-Piedras Negras aquifer is an essential water source for multiple regional communities. Outdated piping systems have led to water loss limiting the distribution and availability of water to residents. By collaborating with transportation, water agencies, and community stakeholders, we strive to improve efficiency and reliability for residents.

The Nava Water Access project is making an impact by:

  • Rehabilitating and replacing the potable water distribution network in the central zone of Nava with high-density polyethylene pipes.
  • Replacing hundreds of water intakes and installing water meters.
  • Modernizing extraction equipment and construction of a connection to the water supply network.
  • Conducting community meetings to receive feedback from stakeholders.

Working hand-in-hand with partners, we strive to understand local water challenges and implement meaningful solutions. By helping to improve public infrastructure and watershed health projects, we aim to improve accessibility to water resources, helping to ensure their resilience for future generations.
