Woodbridge by Robert Mondavi Again Supports "Giving Through Growing"

Lodi, CA, August 2, 2010 – For the second year,Woodbridge by Robert Mondavi is proud to announce their continued support of Giving through Growing - a partnership with the American Community Gardening Association (ACGA) to raise awareness of the importance of developing and beautifying communities through gardening.  This year the campaign will come to life through culinary pioneer and national community gardening advocate, Katy Oursler, with a multi-city media tour and consumer workshop series designed to educate and provide tools to parlay the greening movement in the United States.  Key cities on the tour include Los Angeles (August 10), New York City(September 17-18), and San Francisco (October 8-9).  Supported by an online campaign, the program’s websitewoodbridgewines.com/garden will allow people to send “e-seeds” to friends and family, and Woodbridge by Robert Mondavi will donate one dollar to the ACGA for every e-seed sent up to a total of $40,000. These funds willprovide educational tools and leadership training to select ACGA members across the country to help sustain successful community garden programs.

The inspiration for this program continues to be Robert Mondavi himself who once said, “This is my life, fine food, and fine wine bringing everyone together around the communal table.” The same philosophy holds true for community gardens, where neighbors work together to grow great produce in local gardens, which can then be enjoyed with family and friends as part of a healthy and enriched culinary experience.

In each city visited by Giving through Growing,Katy Oursler will meet with press on this important program to gain more exposure about healthy living through gardening fresh vegetables and fruits while empowering individuals to get involved in their local gardens. Participants in each workshop will learn gardening 101 basics, how to maintain crops and turn bountiful harvests in to simple and nutritious meals.  “Giving through Growing is not only a celebration of a healthy lifestyle through gardening fresh foods but provides a platform for individuals to give back to communities in a powerful way” said Katy Oursler.  “Since an early age, I’ve been championing community gardening; the Giving through Growing program is right in line with my passion for education and building communities through gardening.”

The American Community Gardening Association is led by members who strive to build community by increasing and enhancing community gardening and greening across the United States and Canada. “The key to a successful community garden is education,” notes Bobby Wilson, President of the ACGA. “The Giving Through Growing program will help us teach folks skills to care for their gardens so the greening movement can continue to expand. We are proud to work with a partner that is as dedicated to this cause as we are.”

Giving back to the community was always a part of Robert Mondavi’s life.  His generous spirit has had a profound impact on numerous charitable foundations for many decades and Giving through Growing continues his vision of giving back by subsidizing scholarships through the ACGA to provide higher education on gardening and community leadership to worthy individuals.  More information on the campaign, visitwoodbridgewines.com/garden
