Margrit Mondavi Honored as Citizen of the Year

Chosen for her endless support of the arts, philanthropy and the Napa Valley community, Margrit Mondavi was named Citizen of the Year by the Napa Chamber of Commerce in a ceremony on Friday, January 21.

Mrs. Mondavi has been central to the cultural enrichment of the California community for four decades, from promoting the introduction of art, music and cooking at the seminal Robert Mondavi Winery to her undying support of continued artistic exposure within the broader community.

When asked of her response to being notified of the award she was typically understated, “My reaction to the announcement that the Napa Chamber of Commerce has given me the great honor of naming me Citizen of the Year is that I am first, totally surprised, and second honored and wondering if I really deserve this distinction. I humbly accept and thank you for your confidence.”

Longtime friend and collaborator Dorothy Salmon says of Mrs. Mondavi, “Margrit Mondavi epitomizes graciousness, leadership, vision, courage and quiet unassuming power. She consistently gives with her heart, her soul, and her resources to make life better for people all over the world and in particular, in Napa County. She is loved and admired by many. Every day of her life she gives of herself to many worthwhile endeavors with humor and grace.”
