Kim Crawford Wines Announces Limited Edition Cooling Sleeve Designed by Martin Kastner

Kim Crawford, the pioneering New Zealand winery known for producing award-winning Sauvignon Blanc, announces the release of a limited edition Kim Crawford Cooling Sleeve designed by highly acclaimed Chicago-based serviceware designer Martin Kastner of Crucial Detail. The unique wine sleeve is a beautiful yet functional addition to any table, elegantly keeping a wine bottle at the ideal serving temperature. In a limited edition of 400, the Kim Crawford Chain Link Cooling Sleeve will be available nationally for $149 starting May 9, 2013 through the Kim Crawford website,

In celebration of the innovative and unconventional spirit of Kim Crawford, designer Martin Kastner employed his equally unconventional approach to tabletop design, which elevates basic items to visually stunning, functional serviceware pieces, to create this sleek piece of “wine couture.” Each numbered wine sleeve is designed to fit perfectly on a regular wine bottle, enrobing it in a metal chain link design comprised of circular cooling elements which echo the iconic Kim Crawford logo. The freezable cooling elements will preserve the bottle’s optimally chilled temperature for maximum enjoyment of the aromatics and vibrant flavors of this wine. Dressed in the limited edition wine sleeve, Kim Crawford’s Sauvignon Blanc is poised to be this season’s most stylish tabletop accessory.

“Kim Crawford is an iconic brand that is always pushing the boundaries of how we think about enjoying wine and that resonates with me,” Martin acknowledges. Since founding Crucial Detail, Martin has worked with notable restaurateurs, such as Chicago’s Grant Achatz of three-star Michelin rated Alinea, to create serviceware that showcases every detail of a dish without sacrificing function for design. Martin applied this approach in conceiving the Cooling Sleeve, seeking to create a new, elegant way for wine drinkers to enjoy their bottle of Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc. “I wanted a tool that brings excitement to the table,” Martin continued. “The result is this beautiful sleeve that hopefully sparks conversation among friends who come together to enjoy a glass of wine.”

“The collaboration with Martin Kastner continues Kim Crawford’s tradition of working with artists who inspire creativity and adventure,” noted Kim Crawford’s Global Marketing Director Nila Vermiglio. “From inception, Kim Crawford’s founders steered the winery to be one of the most forward-thinking in the world, revolutionizing the New Zealand wine industry with the introduction of screw crap bottles and innovative winemaking techniques.” In the same spirit, Kim Crawford’s latest advertising campaign, “Undo Ordinary,” was shot live at an art party by famed fashion photographer Miles Aldridge and features bright colors, whimsical imagery and provocative scenarios in which wine is enjoyed to exemplify the brand’s vivacious personality. Kim Crawford has also partnered with culinary innovators, such as New York City’s ice pop artisans people’s pops, to create Kim Crawford-infused popsicles and to reimagine how to enjoy wine every day.
