Canandaigua, NY, February 26, 1999 -- Canandaigua Wine Company, a subsidiary of Canandaigua Brands, Inc. (NASDAQ: CBRNA and CBRNB), announced today that Bill Newlands, former President and CEO of Domaine Chandon and Simi Winery’s will join Canandaigua Wine Company on March 1, 1999, as Vice President and General Manager of the Company’s table wine business. In this role he will oversee a wine portfolio ranging from Inglenook and Almaden to Canandaigua's domestic and agency premium wine brands.

Newlands joins Canandaigua after a successful three-year turnaround of Chandon and Simi where he is credited with reinvigorating both wineries and building an exciting array of wines for the future. Newlands previously spent nine years at Gallo where he rose to the position of Vice President - Marketing. He holds a Bachelor's degree from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
